I received my M.A. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. I relocated to the Southeast in 2007. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I see clients with issues that include anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, eating disorders, pain management, weight loss surgery, life transitions, and LGBT issues. I have worked in various settings such as: residential programs for incarcerated youth, substance abuse treatment centers, schools, and outpatient mental health clinics. I established my private practice in 2010.
I enjoy helping clients learn how to apply coping skills in day to day life, recognize how past events impact their present emotions, and improve their ability to have successful relationships. Whether this is adjusting to new roles in life, coping with overwhelming depression or anxiety or enduring the stifling impact of traumatic experiences, there is all the aptitude needed to deal with these problems within the client. I can assist the client in developing and strengthening these skills needed to effectively manage their lives. I find it rewarding seeing my clients begin to gain trust, not only in the therapeutic relationship, but also in themselves. I do not take an expert approach with my client, but rather a partnership in working together so the client finds their confidence to move life in the direction desired.
I find cognitive behavioral therapy useful for clients as it encourages awareness of automatic thoughts and how they can impact emotions and behaviors. I have also been trained in Internal Family Systems Model of therapy – effective in identifying past traumas, witness/validating these experiences, and unburdening them from the client. I strive to provide a safe, therapeutic environment to promote self-expression, self-healing, and growth towards self-actualization for each of my clients.
